FAQ's
How is your service different than private consultants?
College Guide Post is a resource center on the web. We have brought together to one site all the information needed to prepare, plan and present you to an educational institution. Rather than meet you in an office we will meet you on the web, teleconference, and phone conference and through e-mail making College Guide Post available worldwide. If you move from one community to another or one country to another, we will still be there.
What is it all about?
Preparing for education beyond high school is a long-term project. For parents or grandparents, setting aside funds for financing the post-high school education often starts at the student's birth, and funds grow until the student is ready to use them at 18. For parents, the ongoing process of nurturing the growth of the student takes on the new dimension of the student making the transition from child to teen, and the parents' direct involvement takes on a more supportive and sometimes invisible style. Students find themselves exploring and learning what it means to be independent yet connected while dealing with their own personal accountability and responsibility.
Is there one strategy that ensures success?
Not really. Each student and each family have different needs and may be located some distance from a consultant. The important component is the availability of resources. Our 23 years of experience has included consultations in the office, by phone and e-mail. College Guide Post's goal is to empower you for success. Both strategies, face to face and distance, accomplished the goal.
Do you provide help getting ready for the SAT or the ACT test?
College Guide Post will provide directions to resources and quick access for registration but we do not provide individual tutoring or test prep. For more information about SAT and ACT test prep online, we recommend Method Test Prep. Additional links are available to subscribers.
Can you guarantee that my student will be accepted into college?
Only your student can guarantee an acceptance into college. The student does this by his/her selection of a college prep curriculum, developing good study habits and making good behavior decisions through out high school. Research and realistic choices based on the students' credentials is the key: the admission office at each college/university makes the final decision.
What happens if my student is not accepted to the college of their choice?
Usually the student cries and/or becomes angry and the parents become frustrated, however, what was originally the student's first choice may not have been the best match for that particular freshman class. College Guide Post will work with the family providing resources for a new decision.
Will you talk directly to the Guidance person at my student's school?
The Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) does not allow anyone but the student and/or parent to talk to guidance counselors or college admission officers concerning an applicant. We will guide you with questions that will help you gain the information that you need.
Why is there a charge for a subscription?
Unlike most websites, which are first and foremost about selling products, accepting monies for banner ads, and selling your name to other companies, College Guide Post does not accept any sort of advertising or promotional revenue. College Guide Post provides no-nonsense coaching, tips and a unique, in-depth approach to options for life after High School Graduation. Based on 23 years of experience with over 7,000 students going on to higher education, we continuously search for what will match education with student needs, and funding for the match. Of course, you can find many information sources for free on the Web, but we hope that you find our coaching, tips and insight uniquely valuable.
